I'm working through Nietzsche's "Beyond Good and Evil", and I came across this blurb that reminded me of Walter.
"..there may even be puritanical fanatics of conscience, who prefer to put their last trust in a sure nothing, rather than in an uncertain something. But that is Nihilism, and the sign of a despairing, mortally wearied soul, notwithstanding the courageous bearing such a virtue may display." -Nietzsche
I hope people here realize that your reality is entirely flexible. By that I mean, if there is a theoretical you, someone who exists in your mind only, you can instantly become that person.
Let's say you really want to be a professional chef. (Who wouldn't!?!) As of this moment, you are a chef. In order to be this person, it just takes a conscious desire to change.
I sometimes discourage myself from achieving my goals, because I think "Oh, I can never really do that. It's just a dream. I'm not like that." Well you CAN be like that, if you try.
Your past doesn't dictate your future.
It does take effort, however. You need to cut out things that don't help you achieve your goals. If it is something you truly want to do, you won't mind sacrificing time for it. (Maybe you don't watch football every weekend; it's ok. Really.)
This is a new year, and I hope that if my friends have things they want to change about themselves, they know that they can do it. There are things that I want to change, and I will.
This is slightly abstract, and I apologize for that. But you really can alter your reality. It is an amazing thing, and it is something I try to remember every day.
